By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Belize Progressive Party congratulated their candidates that ran in village council elections, and encouraged Belizeans to continue supporting independent political parties as a means of bringing change to Belize.
The BPP said that independent candidates have seen successes in the villages of Double Head Cabbage, Hopkins, and Silk Grass, but say that more needs to be done to disrupt the status quo of having the United Democratic Party and People’s United Party dominating the political landscape.
“This two-party monopoly dampens the community spirit and cooperation which characterized the core of VILLAGE LIFE,” the BPP said. “Going forward-the Belize Progressive Party calls on villagers throughout the length and breadth of Belize to break the formula of this two-party monopoly, break the mental conditioning, and re-educate themselves to see a better Belize by supporting INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES and INDEPENDENT SLATES OF CANDIDATES.”
The Belize Progressive Party was formed back in 2015 while the country was gearing up for general elections. The party was formed through a collaboration of several independent political third parties.
