By Benjamin Flowers: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise continues to support Belizean farmers by building capacity through training, this time, with farmers in the village of Agua Viva in the Cayo District.
Today, the Cayo District Agriculture Department hosted a Crop Nutrition and Fertigation training for farmers of Agua Viva, which was facilitated by Extension Officer Amir Pulido along with Harold Westby and Alberto Gutierrez from the Irrigation Unit.
“The purpose of the training was to teach farmers on the advantage of using the fertigation method, a technique used of supplying dissolved fertilizer to crops through an irrigation system,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry noted that the training will help farmers to increase productivity and reduce their operational costs, to help them manage the high cost of agro-inputs.
The training is one of several such trainings the Ministry has either spearheaded, or been a part of, recently.
