By Aaron Humes: Someone wants the Commissioner of Police and a member of the Magistracy dead.
But according to Chester Williams, his men are several steps ahead – they know the means and motive, if not necessarily the opportunity.
“I have tasked CIB [Crime Investigation Branch] and the Commander of Operations to do certain things because the person who put out the hit is known to us and those that we were told are the ones being hired to do the hit, we also know who they are and so they are being monitored,” Williams told Channel 7 News’ Jules Vasquez on Tuesday.
According to Channel 7’s sources who spoke to sources of their own, a resident of one of the islands apparently hired a gang based in Belize City to conduct an assassination of a magistrate presently adjudicating a matter in which she is a party. The Commissioner subsequently confirmed that he too was marked for death, but appeared unfazed about it: “At the end of the day as the Commissioner of Police I have a job to do and I’m not going to be deterred from doing my job, because of some persons who may be aggrieved of whatever may have been done to them.”
He added that any suggestion that removing himself and the magistrate in question would ease the plotter’s troubles was false and the threat would be neutralized.
For obvious reasons the Commissioner would not go into detail but stated simply that police are searching out the would-be plotter to bring her in, as well as to ensure the magistrate would be protected. As for himself, he said, “…the good Lord is my guide, I do no wrong to nobody and I am certain that the good Lord is going to protect me.”
