Ministry of Health and Wellness rolls out COVID-19 vaccination of 5-12 year olds on Monday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: COVID-19 vaccination of 5-12 year olds begins on Monday, May 23, said sources within the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The sources said the Ministry is set to go to schools countrywide to get the 5-12 population vaccinated. The schools are on board and have already been getting the consent forms signed by parents.

The vaccine is to be applied in two doses 21 days apart. Immuno-compromised children should be getting three doses with the third shot administered 28 days after the second.

While the Pfizer vaccines for persons 12 years and older that the MOHW is using at present will be expiring at the end of the month, the Government of Belize has acquired a batch of Pfizer vaccines specifically to be used for the children. The children within the 5-12 years bracket will get 2/3 of the dose given to those 12 years or older.
