Saint Lucian Julien Alfred is second-fastest woman in the world

Posted: Thursday, May 19, 2022. 9:05 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Julien Alfred of St Lucia ran the 100-meter sprint in 10.81 seconds making her the second-fastest woman in the world.

Alfred, a student at the University of Texas in the United States, broke her St Lucia national record in the Big 12 Outdoor Championships last Saturday in the preliminary round at Fuller Track in Lubbock, Texas. Her 10.81 is the fastest time in the NCAA this year. It’s also the second-fastest time this year.

Only Olympic champions Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has run faster this year clocking 10.67 seconds in Nairobi, Kenya, on May 7.

Alfred went on to win the Big 12 meet with a time of 10.80 seconds but that time was wind-assisted.

Alfred will represent St Lucia at the Caribbean Games, Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July, and the World Championships.
