By Aaron Humes: The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Belize along with the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government recently distributed hygiene kits to several schools, satellite health clinics, and organizations with reach across the Toledo District.
Minister Oscar Requeña and Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien distributed the kits on May 11 and 12.
Beneficiaries included schools in the villages of San Marcos, San Felipe, Santa Ana, Laguna, and Big Falls; health clinics in San Antonio (Santa Isabel Palma), Santa Ana, and Big Falls; the Punta Gorda Town Council and the Toledo Cacao Growers Association.
The donation is intended to help contain the spread of COVID-19 in the rural areas of Belize.
The Ministry notes, “Taiwan has shown the world its success and strength in minimizing the effects of COVID-19 in their country as well as greatly assisting other countries with protective items to combat the virus. Minister Requeña applauded the contribution and expressed gratitude to Taiwan for its continued solidarity and support over the past 33 years of friendly relations and strong diplomatic ties.”
