Police holding one person in connection with City Hall bomb threat

Posted: Friday, May 20, 2022. 10:04 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A police report says one person has been detained in connection with today’s bomb threat report at City Hall in downtown Belize City.

The Belize City Council’s human resources and customer care representative, Schroleen Sankey, told police that she was called from a cell phone just before 11:30 this morning.

The caller claimed there was a bomb inside the City Hall and he “would blow everyone [up].” He then hung up and Sankey contacted the City Emergency Management Organization (CEMO) Coordinator who in turn contacted police.

City Hall was evacuated, the area around Market Square cordoned off and a bomb expert from the Belize Defence Force with his team began to sweep the area. The all clear was given after and a full statement was recorded from Sankey.

Police continue their investigations.
