By Rubén Morales Iglesias: CARICOM’s women and youth must be fully integrated into mainstream agriculture development planning said the CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett at the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo currently being held in Guyana.

“As we move to achieve the Vision 25 by 2025, we must seek to take deliberate steps to not only recognise the role that women and youth already play as farmers, but we must fully integrate our women and our youth into mainstream planning for agriculture development,” said Barnett.

“I am, therefore, happy to note that there will be special sessions dedicated to addressing the concerns and aspirations of these two important groups of stakeholders,” said the CARICOM Secretary-General.

A Youth Dialogue will be held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Georgetown on Saturday, the last day of the regional Agri-Investment Forum and Expo.

“Youth across the Region who are interested in and are pursuing agriculture, agri-preneurship and agri-technology, among other areas in the sector, will have the opportunity to interact with policymakers at a Youth Dialogue tomorrow, from 10 am-12:30 pm,” said a CARICOM reminder.

Dr. Barnett and the First Lady of Guyana, Arya Ali, will make presentations at the Dialogue.
