By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Coast Guard on Friday afternoon rescued a Belizean, a German and an American after four hours at sea.
“After their vessel submerged south of Ranguana Caye the trio swam towards ‘third reef’ where they sent a distress signal via their Garmin Inreach device,” said the Belize Coast Guard.
“That signal was picked up by the International Emergency Response Centre in Miami and relayed to Belize Coast Guard Headquarters. Our initial search located the semi submerged vessel without anyone within the immediate area. An extended search located the three men holding on to the reef patch.”
The Belize Coast Guard said that it was a challenging operation in rough seas since they had no direct communication with the three persons in distress. In the end, the Coast Guard is happy that they were able to successfully rescue the three individuals.
