By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) travelled to Guatemala City earlier this week to get Schengen visas to travel to French Guiana in June to play in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Schengen visas are required to travel to European Union countries for third countries that do not have a visa-liberalization with the Schengen member states. French Guiana is a territory of France, so Schengen visas are required to travel there.

Only the foreign members of the coaching staff and players who hold other countries’ passports were not required to get visas. Case in point the National team coach David Perez who is from Spain, the assistant coach who is from Mexico, the physiotherapist who is from Peru, and the Belize players who have the United States or Honduran passports.

According to an FFB source, all visas were approved.

The BMNT took advantage of the visit and played a friendly match against third-division team Palencia FC. The BMNT won 3-2.
