San Pedro fisherman attacked by shark, survives

Posted: Saturday, May 21, 2022. 4:14 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brian Bradley survived a shark attack off San Pedro but had to be hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his arm.

Bradley’s fishing partner Francisco Morales told 7 News Belize that Bradley was attacked by a five-foot shark. Morales said the shark tore at one of Bradley’s arms as he was moving towards their kayak to take a grouper they had caught at a distance from the kayak. When Bradley shouted for help, Morales said he went towards him.

He said the shark was going to attack Bradley again, so he shot at the shark with his speargun but missed. Afterwards, Morales said, he had to fight the shark with the speargun to ward off the animal. Morales said that after some time he was able to take Bradley to the kayak where he was helped by Bradley’s brother Roy.

The captain of the boat they were with then came over and they rushed Bradley to the San Pedro Health Center from where he was taken to the KHMH in Belize City.
