Six-year-old Solange Mangandib reaches the top of Victoria Peak; demonstrates bravery and commitment

By Zoila Palma Gonzales: Six-year-old Solange Mangandib of Cayo has broken a 10-year drought of children reaching the top of Victoria Peak. The last child who trekked up Victoria Peak was Rowan Garel in 2011.

On May 18, a group of hikers from the Belize Institute of Search and Rescue (BISART) along with Solange and her parents, Miguel Mangandib and Marlene Orellano began their expedition. The group completed the hike on May 21.

In 2020, when Solange was only 4 years old, she joined her parents and relatives on their hike up Mount Mossy.

Victoria Peak is situated in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary of Belize. It is the second-highest mountain in Belize and rises up to 3670 feet.
