Police Department and family of injured police officer asking the public to pray for him

Posted: Monday, May 23, 2022. 12:57 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Yesterday, Police Constable Oscar Usher and several other police officers were involved in a road traffic accident on the Vaca Falls-Mollejon Road; today the Belize Police Department and his family are asking the public to lift him up in prayer, due to the severity of his injuries.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood, said that PC Usher was one of 10 officers returning from a day trip who were traveling in a police van being driven at the time by PC Douglas Card.

Card reported that he felt the vehicle begin to lean to the left on its own and tried to keep it steady but it ended up tipping over. PC Usher sustained injuries to the throat during the incident and reports that he has since had difficulty breathing.

“The family is asking for prayers and the department is also asking for prayers for him. I asked for an update a little while ago and they are saying that his condition has not improved since being admitted,” Yearwood said.

The other officers who were injured in the incident have since been treated and released from the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

Meanwhile, a sample was taken from PC Card to determine his blood-alcohol level, and the vehicle is being inspected to determine if there was, in fact, a mechanical problem that led to the accident.
