By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department has clarified today that the Police Constable, 21-year-old Kevin Ack, was not knocked down and killed.
Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood, said that on May, 19, around 7:16 p.m. PC Ack was driving a motorcycle en route to the Intermediate Southern Formation (ISF) where he was posted.
Yearwood said that, somewhere between Mile 35 and 36 on the Southern Highway, Ack approached a bump and lost control of his cycle. Ack fell to the ground and received serious head and body injuries. He was taken to the Independence Polyclinic and transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Initially I saw some posts on social media it was suggested a hit and run…It was, in fact, not a hit and run, he lost control of his motorbike,” Yearwood said.
Yearwood noted that the official police report regarding the incident supported that the incident was caused by Ack losing control of the motorcycle.
