Belize City youth charged with raping woman on Pallotti overpass

By BBN Staff: Eighteen-year-old Tayshaun Burns has been charged with raping a 28-year-old woman on the Pallotti overpass.

Burns appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he was read a single charge of rape.

The victim told police that at around 7:00 p.m on April 29, she was ambushed from behind on the overpass and put into a chokehold until she was unconscious.

She said that when she awoke, someone was searching through her purse, and then the attacker forced himself on her and raped her.

Based on a description given to police, Burns was later arrested and charged.

He is due back in court on August 22.
