By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Francis ‘Swappy’ Lewis, singer of the popular band Santino’s Messengers passed away in Belize City on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Born on July 26, 1957, Lewis was 64 years old.

He sang for the Messengers during the time Pete Matthews managed the Messengers. He continued with the band when Colville Young Junior owned and managed the Messengers and continued with the musical group when it became the Santino’s Messengers under Santino Castillo. Lewis also did a stint with the famed Mr. Peters and his Boom and Chime Band.

Funeral services have not yet been announced.

“Swappy was well known for his incredible vocal range, his versatility as a lead singer, and most people didn’t know he was a skilled sound engineer among other things,” said his colleague, Lucio Enriquez.

“To a great Singer Musician and friend,” said Santino Castillo. “Swappy was suffering for a while now and so is in a better place with the love of his life who preceded him a couple of years ago. Sing on Swappy. RIP. My sincere condolences to his family.”

Words of condolences and praise have also been forthcoming from other artists who Lewis worked with.

“Sad news comes from time to time and losing friends and acquaintances is not easy to adjust to,” said Crispin Lincoln Jeffries Sr. “We were there with the New Messengers and with Pete [Matthews] and Swappy. The news is sad but the memories are lasting. The recording session in Mexico City brought out some of the memorable moments.”

Under Colville Young Junior, the Messengers recorded their first album in Mexico City.

“Life well lived, cannot say enough about the moments we got to share in the Santino’s Messengers. Sleep on my Brother,” said Junie Hauze.

“Rest In Peace and rise in glory my brother,” said Kevin Lewis

“Rest In Peace Swapi,” the Gilharry Seven expressed their condolences.
