By BBN Staff: A Ladyville man has been charged with the attempted robbery of a woman from Lords’ Bank, Belize District.
Roger Hilton, 34, is one of two men accused of robbing the complainant at knifepoint on May 18. The other is still being sought.
The complainant told police she was walking alone around 8 in the evening on May 18 when she was approached by two men, one on a bicycle and the other on foot.
The second man, whom the complainant recognized as Hilton and remembered had a cast on his left hand, allegedly pointed a knife at her ribcage while the first man demanded and then tried to forcibly snatch her gold chain. However, they were interrupted when other persons began walking toward the area and they fled without obtaining the chain.
Hilton pleaded not guilty in court, claiming that he was not in the area at the time of the incident. Over objection from the court prosecutor, Magistrate Sashawna Thompson offered bail in the sum of $3,000 plus two sureties of $1,500 each with conditions that he was able to meet.
Hilton was ordered to report twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, to the Crooked Tree Police Station; not interfere with any of the victim’s family members or any of the prosecution’s other witnesses; and stay 100 yards away from the victim.
Hilton’s case was adjourned for July 25, 2022.
