By BBN Staff: A Belize City man was sent to prison for a six week stint after being picked up on a committal warrant for over $16,000 owed in child maintenance.
Doran Dougal was brought to Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday evening to answer for his debt. Since he was unable to immediately satisfy the outstanding amount, stemming back as far as 2011, he was sent to the Belize Central Prison.
He will spend six weeks in jail and upon release, he will still be required to settle the $16,000 child maintenance debt. If he pays off the debt before the end of his six-week stint, he will be released upon payment.
