Minister of Health and Wellness calls for “health for peace and peace for health”

By Zoila Palma Gonzales: Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard addressed the 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland today.

During his address, Bernard spoke about the importance of adequate funding for multilateral organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and ACT-A since these agencies will be critical to accessing treatments.

“As together we all commit to health for peace, and peace for health – I can reiterate Belize’s steadfast commitment to global wellness. We WILL accelerate efforts to reach the WHO Global Vaccination target of inoculating 70% of the population by September 2022 and promote boosters for at-risk population. We WILL continue to implement an intensive public education campaign on vaccines to overcome vaccine,” Bernard stated.

Bernard committed to implementing an intensive public education campaign on vaccines to overcome vaccine hesitance and misinformation.

He also stated that government will expand the National Health Insurance scheme to make health care affordable and accessible to all Belizeans.

The Minister concluded by making known Belize’s support to the United Nations resolution condemning the actions of Russia on Ukraine and reiterating Belize’s firm position on Taiwan being invited to take part of all WHO activities.
