By BBN Staff: The trial of Jose Gomez and Brandon Hughes, the duo charged for the 2018 murder of Belize City businessman 75-year-old Oscar Rosado Sr., began in the Supreme Court this week.
The trial commenced on Monday, before newly-appointed Supreme Court Justice Susan Lamb. The men are being represented by attorney Leeroy Banner.
On April 23, 2018; three men entered Rosado’s Construction Supplies, located on the George Price Highway just before the Lord Ridge Cemetery, and bought some nails. They left then returned minutes later, and Rosado’s wife Elena said it was clear that they had come to commit a robbery, so she tried to alert her husband.
Before fleeing the scene, the men fired as many as 17 shots and in the aftermath, Rosado Sr. was dead on the spot. Hughes was arrested and charged with murder in May of 2018, while Jose Gomez was arrested on August 13, 2019.
The trial continues today.
