By Benjamin Flowers: The results of week two of the Village Council Elections are in, and United Democratic Party Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow, has publicly congratulated the candidates that either won their entire slate or found themselves as members of a mixed village council.
Barrow took to social media to convey his congratulations, claiming the UDP won 11 of the 23 villages contested, a step up from the 10 seats won in 2019.
Those villages included San Pedro, Consejo, Yo Chen, Louisville, Santa Clara, San Roman (Orange Walk), and Red Bank. Villages that saw mixed independent councils included Seine Bight, Placencia, Maya Mopan, and Santa Rosa.
“The UDP is holding strong just 1 year after losing 65 of 67 municipal seats, despite villages being historically the pup’s strength, despite intimidation, victimization and tax payer dollar inducements, the UDP is still on track to hold on overall to the majority of Villages we held in 2019 after only winning 10 Villages in the November 2020 General Elections,” Barrow said.
Barrow went on to say that the UDP will continue its work in the villages, towns, and cities to serve the public.
