By Aaron Humes: In 2023, it will be time to spell again.
Bowen and Bowen Limited, sole leading sponsors of the National Spelling Bee since its formation more than two decades ago, announced this afternoon that the contest will return in 2023 after several years off due to COVID-19.
For many years the contest has been known as the Coca-Cola National Spelling Bee but the Bowen brand is now recognized as the sponsor according to the official logo.
The company said in a press statement: “For over twenty years, the Bowen & Bowen National Spelling Bee has given students country-wide an equal opportunity to shine. This academic contest promotes education, builds self-confidence, and provides an opportunity for students to engage in healthy and fun competition…Planning for next year’s Bowen & Bowen National Spelling Bee has already commenced. Everyone can look forward to a fun and dynamic contest, highlighting the best of Belize’s young spellers.”
Sacred Heart Roman Catholic School of San Ignacio is the defending champion after Amir Miranda won the 2019 contest final in Spanish Lookout.
