Delroy Cuthkelvin hauled before UDP Ethics Committee after anti-Shyne campaign

Posted: Thursday, May 26, 2022. 12:45 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: United Democratic Party chairman Michael Peyrefitte, in an official statement, has indicated that long-time party supporter and former member of the Central Executive Committee Delroy Cuthkelvin must answer to a complaint under threat of revocation of membership.

Peyrefitte explained that there was a “formal complaint” regarding “behaviour detrimental to the United Democratic Party” – specifically, “comments, assertions and opinions being expressed on various media by Delroy Cuthkelvin which bring the Party into disrepute and undermines the rebuilding process we must undertake to form the next Government.”

After an investigation by the Central Executive Committee of the party, Peyrefitte says, it has determined that “Mr Cuthkelvin’ s highly critical, disrespectful, distorted and often times untruthful public comments about our Party Leader, other members of the leadership and of the UDP as an organization are not in line with the code of conduct for members of our Party.”

Cuthkelvin must now answer to the Ethics Committee of the Party as to why his membership should not be revoked for destructive and disruptive misconduct which violates the Party Constitution Article 5 (1)(c), 5 (a), (b), (d), (e).

The Party Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow is electing to stay above the fray, with a brief response to our queries this morning: “This is an internal Party matter that is being dealt with internally by the relevant Party Organs.”

And in his own response on social media, Cuthkelvin is still clearly in a fighting mood: “Ethics committee? What ethics committee? What is unethical?” He goes on to repeat some of the charges made against both Barrow and John Saldivar, who yesterday publicly chided him on social media, and concluded with a phrase from former Prime Minister Dean Barrow: “For God’s sake stop it.”
