Husband of teacher killed in Texas shooting dies ‘of grief’

By Zoila Palma Gonzales: Joe Garcia, the husband of Irma Garcia, who taught for 23 years at Robb Elementary School died today of a heart attack.

During an interview with The New York Times following Tuesday’s deadly shooting, Joe said that officers found his wife, “embracing children in her arms pretty much until her last breath”.

The father of 4 reportedly went to take flowers at his wife’s memorial. When Garcia returned home, he suffered a heart attack and died.

John Martinez, the nephew of Mrs. Garcia tweeted that “Tia Irma’s husband Joe Garcia has passed away due to grief”. The couple had been married for 24 years and leave behind 4 children.

Nineteen children and 2 teachers were killed when the gunman, Salvador Ramos,18, barricaded himself in a classroom and opened fire.

Activists in the United States of America are calling for more gun control measures to be put in place.

Social media is abuzz with heartfelt notes of condolences to those who lost their loved ones in Tuesday’s mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
