Prime Minister hosts 1st BPO stakeholder meeting

By Zoila Palma Gonzales: Today, representatives from 20 Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies in Belize attended a meeting with Prime Minister John Briceno.

The purpose of the meeting is for the stakeholders to share their concerns and challenges and make recommendations in an effort to continue stimulating the development of this vibrant economic activity.

Stakeholders were also briefed on the investment incentive programs that have been implemented.

To date, about 8000 Belizeans are employed by BPO’s across the country.

Government says that the BPO industry is considered a priority sector, which contributes significantly to the economy.

Government says that through this forum, it is now able to better understand the needs of the sector and is even more committed to the growth of this export industry.

Attending the meeting were Christopher Coye the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment; Narda Garcia, Chief Executive Officer, Office of the Prime Minister & Investment; representatives from the Investment Policy & Compliance Unit, the Economic Development Council, BELTRAIDE, the Ministry of Labour, and the Belize Tax Service.
