By Rubén Morales Iglesias: We’re two days away from the Westrac Ltd ‘Your World Is Our World’ half marathon relay and 7K run.
The race slated for Saturday, May 28 is a charity run in aid of the Cayo Deaf Education and Farm Institute which is located approximately 1.5 miles on the Central Farm to Spanish Lookout Road.
Westrac’s Marketing Officer Diana Castillo said earlier that the funds raised will go towards helping the Cayo Deaf Institute to build a multi-purpose facility for their events.
“Westrac is helping them with that and what we are doing in this instance is that for every registration we’ll be doubling the amount. The registration is $50 per person, so for every person that is registered Westrac will be giving $100.”
The Cayo Deaf Institute was established in 1998 as a boarding school for children five to 17.
“The goal of this institute is to help hearing impaired or deaf people get an education which is an extra challenge because they cannot hear,” said Klaas Penner, the school’s administrator/principal.
Principal Penner said they already have a sports court over which they plan to build the multi-purpose facility.
The Half Marathon Relay race starts at 6:00 am. This 10.55 K (6.56 miles) race is for two persons.
