By Aaron Humes: Cooperation between Belizean and Guatemalan authorities led to the capture of a man driving a stolen Toyota Hilux traced to Belize.
One Hector Nathanael Molina Cruz, 28, was arrested on the Inter-American Highway near Esquipulas, Chiquimula state, in a grey Toyota Hilux with no license plate.
A check of Guatemala’s INTERPOL database established that the vehicle, with Cayo license plates CYC-42809, was stolen in Belize on May 13 in Cristo Rey, Cayo District.
Guatemalan thieves, working in collusion with Belizeans, regularly cross the border to steal valuable vehicles, especially Toyota and other pickup trucks. Both the Government and private citizens have suffered repeated losses in recent years.
