Cabinet plans consolidation of Government departments in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: Persons needing any government service – from police to immigration to the courts to taxes to Customs – will often spend lots of money taking taxis or catching buses to the respective offices of these departments in the Old Capital.

At some time in the near future, however, that will change.

Cabinet has approved a development concept for a sort of “one-stop-shop” for Government Administration – a campus to be built in the Lake Independence Development Area located along Lake Independence Boulevard in western Belize City.

The complex would be built using a public-private partnership vehicle.

The Executive says, “It is intended that such a campus will consolidate government departments scattered across the city including the various courts of the judiciary and enable the more efficient provision of government services to the public.”
