By Aaron Humes: A man previously accused of deceptive activity via Facebook was remanded pending posting of bail on Friday when another allegation was made against him.
Michael Jermaine Welch, 29, of Smithsonian Street, Orange Walk Town, was read a charge in Belize City Magistrate’s Court of obtaining a money transfer of 380 dollars by deception, to which he pleaded not guilty.
A minor, 17, told police that on May 23 she logged into her Facebook account and saw a phone being sold by one Imani Pineda for $380. She deposited the money into an account but never received the phone.
Welch was arrested following a police investigation. He was offered bail of $1,200 but had not met it by the close of court on Friday, so was remanded until his next court date on July 26.
Earlier this year, Welch appeared before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of obtaining property by deception for another victim who was buying a phone and never got the phone after depositing the money into an account linked to Welch.
