By BBN Staff: A 28-year-old San Ignacio mechanic is believed to have shot a 26-year-old Belize City baker after a jealous altercation over the mechanic’s ex-wife.
The drama unfolded on Hudson Street near the Blue Angels nightclub in downtown San Ignacio. Police report that in the wee hours of Saturday morning they responded to the shooting incident on Hudson Street, and upon arrival, they were informed that the man who was shot was transported to the San Ignacio Hospital.
Police then visited the hospital and found 26-year-old George Requena, a baker of a Belize City address, suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of his abdomen. Requena was in a stable condition and was transported to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan for treatment.
Initial investigations reveal that on Saturday, May 28, at around 1:30 am George Requena was socializing in downtown San Ignacio along with some family members and friends when Requena was approached by the mechanic. An argument ensued between the two (2) men as the mechanic believes that Requena is having a relationship with his ex-wife, who was also along with Requena at the time.
The mechanic was then given a .38 revolver by one his friends and the mechanic allegedly fired one single shot at Requena causing the injuries. Requena then ran towards Burns Avenue where he was picked up and transported to the hospital.
