‘On with you, be on your merry way,’ John Saldivar tells Delroy Cuthkelvin as tensions escalate

By Aaron Humes: The war of words between United Democratic Party stalwart Delroy Cuthkelvin and senior party officials continues despite Cuthkelvin being ordered to appear to explain them before the party’s Ethics Committee.

A video posted to social media by Cuthkelvin quotes Party Chairman Michael Peyrefitte (via a LOVE FM news report) that he had “no choice” but to refer a complaint officially made to him to the Central Executive Committee, who referred it by vote to the Ethics and Integrity Committee.

Cuthkelvin complains of a double standard, as in August 2021 when former area representative Ramon Witz and former Mayor of Belmopan Simeon Lopez wrote Peyrefitte requesting Saldivar be brought before the Ethics Committee concerning his behaviour, Peyrefitte, in Cuthkelvin’s words, “chose to NOT even acknowledge receipt of their letters.” He concludes, “If the Party Chairman has no choice but to act now, why did he choose NOT to act then?”

Saldivar responded via his own social media post, accusing Cuthkelvin of going on a “crusade to destroy the Party, its Leader, and its most senior member in terms of years of service,” meaning himself.

Regarding the specific claims by Cuthkelvin, Saldivar insists that contrary to the claims of his “perennial enemies” Witz and Lopez, he did not lie about his position in 2020 to the Prime Minister Dean Barrow or to Cabinet, and that his comments about former colleague and then-Party Leader Patrick Faber “were not a sustained attack” and that they, Saldivar and Faber, had made peace over it.

As for Cuthkelvin, Saldivar baldly states, “You, sir, obviously have no intention of coming to the table to talk peace. Your hatred for the Barrows will never mend. So, on with you, be on your merry way. I prefer to deal with you as an enemy outside of my party than to have you screwing us from inside.”

And he further applies the sentiment to those others who he says “cannot respect that Tracy Panton lost fair and square” in the recent leadership convention.
