By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National subchampions Rumberas downed the Verdes Rebels 3-1 on a wet pitch and under rain at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday in the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) A.

The Rumberas moved up to the second spot in the NAWL A as they now have 11 points, one more than the Sagitun GIRLZ, whose game on Sunday was postponed due to the bad condition of the field after the Rumberas game and the heavy rains overnight. Both teams have now played six games.

Quinah Caliz converted a brace in the 18’ and 71’ while Ashley Rodríguez nailed the other in the 55’ for Rumberas.

Nyersha Obando scored the Verdes Rebels’ only goal in the 61’. Verdes could have scored another goal but Rumberas keeper Sharyn Enriquez, who had a superb performance, stopped a penalty kick.

The Verdes Rebels remain at the bottom of the standings with only one point from six games.
