COVID update: Weekend sees narrowing between new cases and recoveries, is the peak of the new wave near?

By Aaron Humes: After two to three weeks of steadily rising numbers of new cases of COVID-19, the number of new recoveries dramatically rose over the weekend, limiting the increase of active cases.

194 total new cases were reported per the Ministry of Health and Wellness as opposed to 165 new recoveries.

Belize now has 1,128 active cases of COVID-19 with a further 75 samples under investigation.

Five persons are hospitalized with no new deaths reported.

The mainland Belize District added 87 new cases including 55 in Belize City, while another 23 were reported in San Pedro Town.

Greater Belmopan added 10 new cases and San Ignacio/Santa Elena 12 of 41 in the Cayo District.

The northern districts reported 15 new cases between them and the southern districts 28.
