By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) Organizing Committee said late Monday that over 29,000 persons attended the Agric Show this past weekend, according to a press release by the Government of Belize (GOB) Press Office.
Once the 2,384 regional delegates and guests are added to the 26,753 paying visitors, the total number of attendees is 29,137. Of the paying patrons, 10,961 visited on Saturday and 15,782 did so on Sunday.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) celebrated the 50th anniversary of the National Agriculture and Trade Show held on May 27, 28, and 29, 2022, under the theme “Innovations in technology: Driving a Climate Resilient and Competitive Agriculture and Food Sector”.
Despite being affected by rain, particularly on Sunday afternoon, MAFSE said it considers the event a huge success.
“There were no major incidents reported in connection with the event,” said the GOB Press Office.
Except for the bull that escaped the rodeo area and had everyone running on Sunday afternoon.
“The bull’s escape from the rodeo arena on Sunday was regrettable. The ministry is grateful that no one was seriously injured; the animal was quickly captured by the rodeo team and returned to its pen with no further issues,” said the press release.
“The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise thanks all those who attended the show including the committee members who gave their time and energy to help plan and coordinate the event.
“The ministry also extends a special thanks to the sponsors and collaborating agencies such as the Belize Police Department, Belmopan City Council, Total Business Solutions Ltd, Beltraide, Development Finance Corporation, vendors, exhibitors, and service providers.
“Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise acknowledges the efforts of the staff of the ministry in contributing to this successful event.”
According to the GOB Press Office, the NATS Committee plans to hold the 2023 National Agriculture and Trade Show on April 28, 29, and 30, 2023.
