By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) today received 124,800 Pfizer pediatric COVID-19 vaccines, according to the Government of Belize Press Office.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Belize partnered with the Republic of Slovakia to secure the procurement of 124,800 doses of the Pfizer pediatric vaccine,” said the GOB Press Office.
“The vaccines were handed over to the Ministry of Health & Wellness today.”
The vaccines were funded by the European Union.
On hand for the presentation were Xavier Canton-Lamousse, Team Leader of the European Union Technical Support Office to Belize; Ambassador Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; and Dr. Julio Sabido, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education on Monday, started vaccinating children ages 5 to 11 against COVID-19. The vaccination is being carried out in the country’s primary schools. However, the pediatric vaccines are also available at the usual vaccinating sites countrywide as well.
The MOHW said it expects to vaccinate 73,000 children countrywide.
