By Aaron Humes: Police, with the assistance of their Guatemalan counterparts, were able to recover a 2016 Toyota Hilux pick-up truck stolen in a home invasion last week Friday.
According to Channel 7 News, three masked and armed men invaded a couple’s home in the Monkey Falls area of Cristo Rey. They pulled up in an SUV of their own and forced the wife and the couple’s two children inside and tied them up with duct tape.
But the son’s screaming alerted his father and neighbor, who also were overpowered and tied up by one of the masked and armed men.
The group ransacked the house and demanded the keys for the Hilux, which the family gave over, after which the men left them tied up and gagged with the duct tape.
Surveillance footage at the Bullet Tree crossing caught the SUV and Hilux passing around 8 in the morning heading toward El Pilar Road. Police in Guatemala recovered the pickup in Esquipulas, Guatemala. Police here traced the SUV to a car rental agency in Esperanza village, where they learned it had been rented to a man from San Jose Succotz. That renter has not been located and he is considered wanted in connection with the incident.
