China eases COVID-19 restrictions in Shanghai after 2 months

Posted: Thursday, June 2, 2022. 12:20 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: China’s economic center, Shanghai has lifted its COVID-19 restrictions after a 2-month lockdown.

As of June 1, the restrictions were lifted to allow people to move freely.

However, the country’s policy of “zero covid” remains in place with anyone infected with COVID-19 being confined to their homes or hospital. Close contacts of those infected also need to quarantine or their immediate area can be locked down.

With the new rules, residents now need to show a green health code on their phones to enter most places.

Those using public transportation or going to malls must have a negative PCR test certificate valid in the last 72 hours.

Meanwhile, face-to-face classes remain closed along with cinemas, museums, and gyms.
