Ladyville gas station owner is fined $500 for failure to wear a face mask

Posted: Thursday, June 2, 2022. 11:28 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Owner of Perez Gas in Ladyville, Belize District, 42-year-old Dale Allen Perez, avoided further fines in court on a charge of failure to wear a face mask contrary to the COVID-19 Public Health Regulations in February.

Police on February 4 issued the ticket after seeing Perez on Manta Ray Boulevard, Ladyville, without his face mask.

The fine was due by February 18 and if not paid, then Perez as the defendant should have come to court on March 4.

According to Perez as he told Magistrate Khiana Gordon, however, he thought the violation ticket had been canceled, hence why he never showed up in court.

For every day the ticket is not paid beyond the mandatory period, $10 is charged, but the Magistrate forwent the additional monies and ordered he pay the original $500 fine by July 29, 2022, in default, 2 months’ imprisonment.
