By BBN Staff: 42-year-old Rene Adalberto Gonzalez has been charged with wounding following a domestic incident.
In court on Wednesday, he was remanded despite claiming to be a naturalized Belizean as he could not provide a fixed address and was uncertain even of his date of birth.
Gonzalez is accused of wounding a woman during a dispute on April 9.
The court prosecutor successfully argued against bail citing the nature of the charge, the alleged use of a knife and the possibility that Gonzalez could flee the jurisdiction if granted bail as the court would have difficulty locating him without a fixed address. As well he cited the rise of domestic violence claims and the possibility of interference with the virtual complainant, who may or may not have a relationship with him.
Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson denied bail and remanded Gonzalez to prison until July 26, indicating that she would consider bail at that time if Gonzalez can produce his documentation concerning his status in Belize and a fixed address.
