By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, U.S. President, Joe Biden revoked flight restrictions to Cuba imposed by the previous Trump administration. The restrictions were lifted effective immediately.
This included ending the prohibition on U.S. airline flights to Cuban airports other than Havana.
U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said that the decision was made “in support of the Cuban people, and in the foreign policy interests of the United States.”
In 2019 and 2020, the Trump administration issued aviation restrictions in an effort to increase U.S. economic pressure on the Cuban government.
At this time, it is unclear how many new flights to Cuba may be added since airlines are facing employee shortages.
