By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Twins, Elena and Ruben Evans-Guillen of Warrington in Cheshire, England raised £46,000 for charity running 100km in a year. They have become the youngest recipients of the Queen’s birthday honors in her Platinum Jubilee year.
The 11-year-olds have been awarded British Empire Medals for services to fundraising.
In an interview with BBC News, Elena said being given the honor was “unreal”.
“I’m really excited to be getting these awards from the Queen and I’m proud of my brother and myself that we have achieved this much,” she said.
“My favorite thing about the charity work we do is that we get to help the community and we help other people,” Ruben said.
The twin’s father, Mark Evans-Guillen, 47, said that the children both have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and that was the focus for getting involved with the fundraising.
He encouraged other families with similar diagnoses to look at the twins and take any inspiration, encouragement, or ideas from them that they can.
