Alleged dildo thief unable to meet bail remanded to prison

By BBN Staff: An alleged dildo thief who was unable to meet bail was remanded to prison on Friday.

Joshua Escalante, 25, a call center agent of Transparent BPO was arraigned in court on Friday on a single count of theft. He appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser.

Escalante is accused by his cousin, who sells sex toys online, of stealing a blue 7-inch vibrating dildo from her home. Escalante, who disagrees with her assertion, pleaded “not guilty” to the charge.

According to Escalante, on April 1, he was hanging out with his cousin and her boyfriend and he had an agreement with his cousin to sell the sex toy for her. But his cousin, the complainant, says she told Escalante that she already had a buyer for the phallic item. The next day when her customer arrived to pick up her package, she realized it was missing and when she called Escalante, he admitted he had taken it without her consent.

His cousin made a report to police on May 31 claiming that Escalante had stolen the sex toy, valued at $120, and with that, he was charged.

Escalante was granted bail in the sum of $600 plus one surety of the same amount but he was unable to meet it and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance on August 3. Escalante has been instructed not to interfere with his cousin or her sex toys once he is able to make bail.
