Cayo woman held prisoner and assaulted in vehicle by family friend; 12 thousand dollars allegedly stolen

By Aaron Humes: Police are seeking one Jonathan Cruz Bahadur in relation to a reported robbery, assault and abduction of a businesswoman from Santa Elena Town, Cayo District.

Complainant Sheree Bateman told police that she was with Bahadur in a white Mitsubishi Outlander on their way into San Ignacio when he diverted into a feeder road into the Bradley’s Bank area, saying he was taking a shortcut.

According to police Bahadur then instructed Bateman to open a bag she was carrying containing a sum of $12,000 in Belize and U.S. currency which belonged to her brother. She refused and was physically assaulted.

On Loma Luz Boulevard, Bateman told police, she jumped from the moving vehicle, sustaining injury and Bahadur fled with the vehicle and the money. The Outlander was later found abandoned on Bishop Martin Street. Police are investigating.
