Minister of Infrastructure: Upgrading of 16 miles of Philip Goldson Highway COMING SOON

Posted: Friday, June 3, 2022. 2:54 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing, Julius Espat announced today that Government will upgrade and rehabilitate 16 miles of the Philip Goldson Highway very soon.

Espat said that this is being done without adding any money to the ‘inherited national debt’ and explained to Parliament that it is important to upgrade that portion of the highway due to climate change vulnerability.

He added that the effects of natural disasters continue to affect the road infrastructure of the country, “ along with neglect, under-investment, lack of vision, lack of maintenance over the last 13 years [referring to the previous UDP Government] which has caused the road conditions in some parts of the country to be considered deplorable”.

Minister Espat stated that the road upgrade is part of the Remate Project that will see the completion of the highway. He also reminded the Belizean people of the renegotiation of the last section of the Caracol road that saved taxpayers $25 million.
