By Aaron Humes: It has been confirmed that overnight, prices for premium gasoline rose by nearly a dollar to $15.78 per gallon in Belize City and nearly $16 as far west as San Ignacio.
The $15 level is believed to be a new and unwanted national record.
In the House, the Opposition members Moses “Shyne” Barrow and Tracey Taegar-Panton raised the issue as a way to chide the Government for failing to set priorities, including strengthening social protection.
But the fuel increase is tied to the ongoing situation with the international petroleum market, affected by war and subsequent shocks to the system.
There was no official announcement as has become common since the increases began earlier this year, with no sign of the plans the Government announced earlier this year for solutions.
