By Aaron Humes: Plues Street resident Jaheim Bent, 19, appeared before Magistrate Khiana Gordon charged with an armed robbery of a gas station attendant on Monday.
Bent is accused of robbing at gunpoint Curtis Belisle of a cell phone worth $300 and some $407 in cash, the property of the Oil and Energy Fuel Station on Lindo’s Alley in Belize City.
Bent pleaded not guilty and was remanded without bail until his next court appearance on July 29.
On Monday afternoon, Belisle was at work when two men rode up on separate bicycles, one of whom he says he recognized as Bent.
One of the men, holding a red gallon bottle, asked for gas and as Belisle turned to serve him the second man pulled out a firearm, pointed it at him, and ordered him not to move. He then removed his cell phone and the money which represented the station’s daily sales, after which they rode off on their bicycles.
Police responded with an all-points bulletin to mobile and foot patrols and surveillance footage was viewed and retrieved as evidence. Bent turned himself in to police the next day and was arrested and charged on Wednesday.
