Police officer injured after truck tire blows out, crashes into his vehicle

By Aaron Humes: Police initial investigation confirms that one of their own was the victim of this morning’s traffic accident on the George Price Highway.

Police Corporal Ian Geban has been hospitalized with pain in the left knee, left arm, and pain in his head. He has abrasions to the head and left arm and pain in the right index finger.

Corporal Geban was driving his Nissan Altima east toward Belize City just before 7 a.m. when between miles 10 and 11, a White International Towhead truck traveling in the opposite direction had a blowout on the left front tire, causing the driver to lose control of the truck, hitting Corporal Geban’s Altima in the left front wheel causing extensive damages to the vehicle and injuries sustained by Corporal Geban.

The Towhead truck was towing a fuel tanker and driven by Edgar Cópo of Orange Walk Town and is the property of Mardonia Leiva and Sons Trucking Service Limited from Riverside Street, Orange Walk Town.

Both vehicles are licensed and insured as well as both drivers.

Police investigation continues.
