By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are predicting a busy 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
The meteorologists say that 14 to 21 named storms could develop and as many as 10 hurricanes could form making it another above-normal hurricane season.
Of those predicted hurricanes, 3 to 6 could strengthen to major hurricanes with wind speeds of 111 miles per hour.
According to the experts, the active season would be as a result of climate factors including the ongoing La Niña and warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
The NOAA noted that the predicted above-average hurricane activity this year — would make it the seventh consecutive above-average hurricane season in the Atlantic.
Tropical Storm Alex formed today making it the first named storm of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June to November.
