By Aaron Humes: While as of this writing a formal complaint has yet to be received by Police, the Department is aware of the public shame of a young woman out socializing in Belize City on Friday night.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that the male officers present should have intervened more quickly or sought assistance to cover the young woman’s modesty, noting that police regulations only disallow male officers to search a woman’s person.
He also deplored the taking of video of the woman that was later leaked online, suggesting that cyber-crime-related charges could be laid.
And he offered some advice to women generally to be more careful about their night-time excursions, especially taking drinks from anyone, friend or stranger, which may contain a drug that would put them at risk.
