Belize Police Department working with Facebook to identify scams, cyberbullying

Posted: Tuesday, June 7, 2022. 1:13 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Police Commissioner Chester Williams said the Belize Police Department will be working with Facebook to better deal with scams, cyberbullying, and fake profiles.

Williams said that he met with Facebook representatives during a recent visit to the Bahamas confirming that a Facebook representative will visit Belize in July to train police officers so the Department can better deal with problems arising from social media.

“We forged a connection in terms of how we are going to address the issues involving Facebook and they have pledged that once we have a situation, I can contact them directly and they are going to see what they can do to assist us in getting to the bottom of those investigations,” said Commissioner Williams.

According to Williams, the Belize Police Department is expecting to strengthen its know-how of cyber security, and particularly since Facebook is the most popular platform used by Belizeans, he expects positive results from the July visit.
